@MacenW bro, you don't even know the meaning of the word "old", I'm going on 38 this year & I feel WAY older than you, Lil' bro, your still young, grasshopper. Lol
0:45 Exactly tho. Shrek aged stupidly well for no reason, and I feel like people were expecting a maintenance of the artstyle because if it isn't broke, don't fix it.
Shreks original art style was perfect for the movie and for the series, not to mention that DreamWorks had their ways with their original works in their own movies so the style stayed the same... Until Illuminations bought DreamWorks and then they put their own despicable me style in Shrek, which sucks. And not to mention, Shrek scrolling and looking for memes is what makes me concerned the most, not only does the current plot of the original 3 movies were based on more of the midieval times and magical creatures, but there isn't such things as cars or cities in that area. So, seeing actual technology like memes in a place like that, it's worrying. Its not looking to good for us Shrek fans lol
@ That’s such a ridiculous point. The monsters from Monsters inc manage to look both believably scary to children but still cool and likable for the audience. I enjoyed Shrek as a kid but he’s just a really gross and unappealing design and not in a fun way. Same goes for Donkey and Farquad btw. Just ugly designs
The problem I have is they had perfect updated models from puss in boots the last wish they could’ve used which look like the og designs with just a fresh coat of paint. But instead they just went with these new designs with huge eyes and cartoony proportions that looks more like a pixar movie.
Seriously like cmon. It’s the same argument that halo fans had back then when 343 got halo and start making the master chief look slightly different. But at the end of the day the look and feel of his armor and the way they capture his emotion with just a suit was the whole point of how his character was. But instead we got a more sensitive chief which was fine in 4 but then they took it too far. This is giving me the same vibe is that if people end up liking this movie, and it’s egregiously mid then yeah it’s gonna suck if they keep doubling down with the different art style and overall the whole vibe of shrek. It just looks too much like Pixar and If I wanted to watch Pixar I’d watch it but I don’t like that these days so when people look towards shrek and then they see it’s more like Pixar, which is what they made fun of in the first place then of course people are going to be turned off a little because it’s very obvious how different an art style can change an entire movie.
It really shines through Pinocchio, who had appeared in Puss in Boots 2 with updated animation but no redesign, yet they retooled him for a movie to be released only a few years later.
@@wajowski Him and Donkey. I could give or take the Ogres, but Donkey and Pinocchio both bother me for some reason. I think with Donkey it's largely just him being fluffier (ala those "Fluffy Donkey" bloopers) that's throwing me off. If it weren't for the voice I would have been convinced it was like his son. Pinocchio is just "why?" though. I probably hate his design the most considering we know he appeared in Last Wish with the old one. I wonder if that's in part due to the Illumination influence finally starting to affect Dreamworks.
LITERALLY THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING I KNEW I WASNT THE ONLY ONE!! she looks like those tik tok videos where they edit disney princesses to look more modern or edgy and they change their makeup and everything
These days it feels like the animation side of the internet is either overly praising something or overly complaining about something, theres rarely an inbetween
I cant even handle listening to reviews most of the time anymore because of this, people aren't giving stuff a chance so much that some of these reviewers are literally not actually even watching the movies and still writing out these negative scripts that just parrot each other. If you watch the movies you'll realize it because a ton of the 'reviewers' get entire plot points wrong or miss really obvious context clues giving answers to questions/complaints they have
@@pass_ ive been noticing it way more recently, like as good as im sure puss in boots 2 is it got really annoying constantly being told how hard puss' panic attack went
@Pastryman-g9u I mean Dreamworks needed to do new designs for characters who didn’t have a film in years, and if they do the same if Madagascar plans to have another film, then we know they’re gonna have redesigns
Mayby it's just me, but I don't see any big differences. His head is slightly less round and his eyes are mayby a bit to close, and that's it. It's not an upgrade, nor a downgrade, it's just Shrek with more bulky jaw.
I think it's fine, honestly. I prefer the original, but it honestly just looks fine. They're older now, and I think the designs perfectly show that. I love Donkeys new design, Fiona looks great, and Shrek is fine. People are overly dramatic, it's not that big of a deal :/
Well if you wanna do that, you should care about his appearance at all. Love him for who he is not what he looks like. completely goes against the entire....well theme of the damn movie lmao
@@easiestcc6451 The issue is that it wasn't intentionally. They tried to make him more visually appealing, which blew up in their face because he turned out uglier.
given how much of shrek's message boils down to "it's okay to not be conventionally attractive and pristinely marketable", i can understand why people are upset. shrek's imperfection visually as well as in personality IS his character and why shrek as a series ever hit in the first place
Not only is the redesign controversial, but the fact that it starts with Shrek reacting to memes of himself despite Shrek memes being forgotten in 2025 is what truly concerns me.
The age of memes is irrelevant for me, it's the fact that there are memes, that's cringe enough, especially since they are of the brain rot type and nothing something clever at least.
I know 15 years was a long time, but people forget that Shrek 4 was meant to be...well,THE final chapter. Shrek was sick of his life,so he made a deal to get his old life back, only to screw him over and have to go through a lesson on appreciating what the future became, and realizing nostalgia doesn't make things good. It didn't hide behind pop culture references or a ton of self referencing humor, and while it had it's funny moments it was serious and felt like a finale to an arc. This entire trailer kinda goes against that principle, throwing memes and pop culture references right away, trying to make the designs more "appealing," it's not a question of "if" but a "why." This reeks of a cash grab that forgets the entire point of Shrek but I am hopefully proven wrong. It's worrisome tbh
Worrisome? It’s just a movie. Worry about things that actually matter, like Elon musk sacking almost all national park employees. There are now only 3 employees working at Yellowstone
I understand the “y’all just hate change” argument. But it’s really the fact that they decided to change something that was already perfect. Like if you wanna try something new, do it with a NEW property! Don’t change the old one that’s already perfect just the way it is.
Some people just don't care about the argument and want to get people pissed, they know people are pressed about this already and just want engagement.
Where was this outrage when dreamworks redesigned every character to the cartoony look in The Last Wish? Yall loved it so they decided to stick with that style for Shrek 5.
@@GamingBoy0422 You really have to ask. Pinocchio, Shrek, and Donkey all look the same in the Last WIsh, so there's no excuse for them looking different in Shrek 5.
I was only nine years old. I loved Shrek so much, I had all the merchandise and movies. I'd pray to Shrek every night before I went to bed, thanking him for the life I’d been given. "Shrek is love,” I would say, "Shrek is life.”
@ that was the point, that’s what made it so unique and helped the movie gain the amount of fame it got. The new design stripped it of all its originality
@@danculbert6349 Not every design needs to be some cutesy BS. I swear the influence of anime has totally brainwashed people into thinking art styles can't be ugly. Yes, trash like bigmouth just looks horrible, but Shrek was ugly and CHARMING. And most of the characters werent even ugly they just had an element of realism, it was just the ogres that were ugly because they're OGRES lol
This is heartbreaking for Shrek Fans. They Nerfed Shrek and Especially Donkey. Donkey now looks like a character from Open Season. It's like They want Shrek to be the new mascot of Disney
Anyone else thinks that Shrek's daughter looks like a trolls or croods character? Idk what is it about her design (probably the hair and hairstyle), but she looks like a troll-caveman hybrid to me
It's probably cuz she has a sort of flat head. Little to no chin, no forehead, large cheeks. It still looks like the baby ogres' face. Like, compared her head to Shrek's head. (One can assume they didn't want her to look too much like Fiona because Fiona is half-human)
@@Supershadow301 Idk why they shouldn't make her look like fiona, cause she is, indeed, her daughter, she is thus quarter-human. And even if you were to explain the odd-shaped head that way, Fiona's looks are not unique to her due to her being half-human, cause in Shrek 4 we see female ogres, and they don't look that different from fiona or shrek
i dunno why but i didn’t realize shrek forever after was an actual shrek sequel until like a few years ago lol, i always thought it was a christmas special or something
@@sammy_wills technically Shrek 4 ends with his life returning to normal before he ever made the deal, Shrek is the only one aware it ever happened and it doesn't affect the "main timeline" if you will.
How? You must not remember the year 2009 or 2010. I remember when Shrek 4 was first revealed, seeing the trailers in the movie theaters and TV. I watched it when it came out.
I’m calling it now, but if Felicia’s entire character is just going to be another Peaches from the Ice Age saga, I will literally walk out of the theater, and demand my money back.
Calling it now, she's going to not want to be gross like the other ogres and Fiona will give her a talk about embracing her "inner ogre" and accepting who she is.
One thing I'll agree with some people on is that if Shrek was ever gonna come back, modern internet culture was gonna be referenced no matter what. Shrek's biggest attributes as a franchise is how they use pop culture for comedy/commentary. I will admit that the internet/memes will definitely be a bit harder to get right, since it changes so rapidly that one thing that is in can go out by next week, and it's easy for corporations who attempt to do so tether on "how do you do fellow kids" territory.
I think the issue, aside from pop culture references being so overdone Shrek no longer stands out, there was an actual commentary behind them and simply put I don't trust a movie by the people behind minions and trolls made in 2026 to have the edge of the original
memes and pop culture werent the big part of shrek 1 and 2 (the good ones) it was the use of things everyone deals with. Memes are always changing, they arent stagnant. Its just not worth it to go for memes and pop culture, because it will ALWAYS age horribly.
That will be their doom if they do that, because companies do not know how to do internet humor authentically. It will either be outdated references or thing they don't fully get why its funny. The modern Simpsons is just the example of a series that really doesn't get it. Tries to be relevant but just doesn't work.
@@duckyduckington9736 Imo more importantly, these cultural references were little nods here and there, or unexpected gags. Like, Far Far Away looking like LA/Hollywood is funny, but it's not screamed in your face as much as the Magic Mirror turning into an iphone and showing 10 year old Shrek memes.
I'm just disappointed it's not having a similar vibe to Last Wish. The end of it implied direct continuation into a Shrek 5 but after seeing the marketing here, it looks like it won't have that vibe at all. Which is too bad.
Wasn't Puss just going to meet up with Shrek? What plot threads were left for there to be a continuation into the new Shrek movie? It's been a while since I watched it.
It’s not that change is bad, it’s we live in an age where studios take franchises reboot a property and squeeze every drop of money they can while ignoring everything good that made it popular.
yeah, it's different. and as far as series go, that's bad, because it shows a lack of respect/understanding for the original. no one wanted shrek to be better, because it was already great.
Happened with the garbage fire that was Kung Fu Panda 4, I think the time of good animated movies is dead, people are too greedy and just want to make a quick buck.
This teaser just reeked of "Hey there fellow kids" energy to me. The designs are also a definite but not as bad as the other stuff shown. The old movies were genuinely fun & hilarious but this one just feels like a soulless cashgrab. Also doesn't help that the franchise already had a satisfying enough conclusion at least in my opinion.
"The old movies were genuinely fun & hilarious but this one just feels like a soulless cashgrab." The movie isn't even out, you blithering imbecile. You haven't seen it. Shut up.
I want shrek to return to form in the way they were in shrek 1. A subtle Meta-commentary on the current state of the animation industry while providing a memorable and iconic story and characters. The first movie was basically a critique of how disney was acquiring classic fairy tales as their own. This was before disney began acquiring major companies like marvel and star wars. In a way shrek 1 was ahead of the curve. I would like to see the satirical charm of shrek 1 since there is so much material to work with considering how much the industry has changed for better or for worse
A way you could do that is to essentially create a 2D animated version of Shrek just to comment on the fact that no major western studios in animation even think about doing any 2D animated films anymore and it's certainly not because of costs because nowadays films are way more expensive and every big budget film has a way bigger budget than any films in the early 2000's to late 2000's.
What’s frustrating is that Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona’s cameo in the Dreamworks logo opening will look like how they were in the first Shrek film compared to the design we got in the teaser.
Heck, _even in Puss in Boots 2,_ Shrek looks exactly the same as he was in the 4 previous films and that's actually his cameo appearance (the part where he ate Gingy). The new redesign looks decent, I just think the original design is iconic. I'm just hoping the teaser is a one-off promotional material.
i think the main problem of uncanniness comes from the fact that the last movie was back in 2010 and the pallet was washed out ; but in 5 it is highly detailed and colorful.
I’ve said this a few times now, but I’m started to get annoyed by people saying “It’s Sonic again!” The Sonic design fundamentally misunderstood what made the character visually appealing when they first made the CGI design. An older shrek in a tweaked artstyle with updated animation, textures and lighting and slightly bigger and closer eyes does not compare to that.
The design themselves looked okay-ish but Pinocchio looked rough. What I don’t like about this teaser was how they try so hard to act hey remember this?
I agree, it doesn't look as good as original shrek but I would still watch it and know it's shrek. Though if we can change it to the original design I want that more
I don't even hate the design, I do however hate the meme-culture references. When corporations and writers try to reference Internet humour it's always cringe. As a Sonic fan it's what ruined the Sonic movies for me, it's really hard to enjoy them when every 5-10 mins someone is making a cringey pop-culture reference. I think what made the first 2 Shrek films so timeless, is how little it references pop-cukture ir real world events from it's time period. The jokes hold up because most of them aren't trying to be time relative, and are mostly jokes about timeless fairy tales. The ones that are pop culture are rarely in your face and are easy to understand even if you don't get the reference, like the spiderman kiss, magic mirror dating show, or the scene of donkey and puss being arrested
Your opinion on the Sonic movie is stupid you said they did nothing but internet references and to that I say your wrong because you clearly haven’t seen Sonic 3

I kinda hate how everyone is always trying to make an ugly sonic situation out of any change in a character's design and it just makes me feel like a lot of people got the wrong idea from that whole ordeal. To those trying to make this another ugly sonic thing, just put it to rest.
Yes! The thing with Sonic is that it felt like they were trying to kill off any dignity the franchise even had in awhile, that was legit terrible like it felt like Sega and Paramount really didn’t care 😢 As for this, I understand preferring an art style, that’s fine but if you actually try to make it like Sonic and bully the animators cause you’re a man child who’s nostalgia blind, I better see somebody working on the movie clock the fans

Tbh I wouldn’t be surprised if all of this was Chris Meledandri’s doing cause he’s a producer on Shrek 5 and the animation is very Illumination like. I feel like Universal and Meledandri at this point are destroying Dreamworks so they can prop up Illumination, I mean the signs are there they moved Minions 3 up a year and moved Shrek to the end of next year. At this point if Chris keeps taking Dreamworks in this direction it could end up suffering the same fate as Blue Sky Studios. Everybody says Disney is mistreating Pixar but Universal is mistreating Dreamworks right in front of us and no one bats an eye.
@ Actually he was an executive producer on Puss in Boots 2 which don’t have as much say as a main producer so he was probably more hands off on that than on Shrek 5 not to mention he was working on the Mario movie which Puss in Boots 2 took it’s original release date. I’m actually amazed Puss in Boots 2 actually came out as great as it did cause with how Meledandri’s movies usually are and this teaser is anything to go by it could’ve been a hell of a lot worse.
Universal also has another animation studio that’s simply called “Universal Animation Studios” but it’s basically only used for making direct to dvd/streaming films or tv shows.
Dreamworks still uses a Shrek design closer to the original in the newer titles and it looked pretty good, it confuses me on why Dreamworks didn’t save money and just reuse it. Shrek’s new design may not be Ugly Sonic, but still jarring none the less.
The redesign certainly felt jarring, but definitely something I could be alright with over time, certainly not something needs the “Sonic design “ treatment.
I’ve seen some edits, and I think a few tweaks would fix it. Right now what’s jarring is that his head is much more egg shaped, his eyes are pressed close together and the nose shape is off (original design was flatter compared). To me right now he looks like some other ogre like the ones in Shrek 4. Like an uncanny “almost Shrek but not quite the same character”. I dunno, I hope they will fix it because all it looks like it needs is some small adjustments and as it stands that’s not how the character is already established to look. Donkey and Pinocchio though…
It’s the proportions, there are so many edits that slightly tweak the proportions and they look so much better, proportions being slightly off can lead to an animated character looking like a completely different person
The new designs/animation style isn't bad to me, but it really does feel like if for the 5th Harry Potter movie they just replaced Daniel Radcliffe with a very similar looking but different actor. Doesn't matter if the new actor is also good, it's just bizarre changing something like that so far into a series
Every sequel for an epic series these days has just been… trash. Except for the sequel to Inside Out. That one was good. But to me; Shrek 4 was probably one of the only good animated “fourquels” I’ve ever seen.
“It’s the world that seems to have a problem with me. People take one look at me and go ‘Ah! Help! Run! A big stupid, ugly ogre…’ They judge me before they even know me.” -Shrek 1
This deserves more attention. Anyways I think that this whole character design situation is really dumb and I'm certain it's just complaining for the sake of it. These new designs aren't Ugly Sonic level, not even close.
I do genuinely care about Shrek *this* much, and I don't believe all this negative reaction, or even most of it, is from people merely "pretending" to do so. Shrek and its sequel are masterpieces in the realms of animation, family films, fantasy world building, and comedy. This is especially impressive considering the subversive tone of the original risked not aging very well, but managed to only get better with each passing year. Yes, the pop culture references and licensed music tie those movies explicitly to the 2000s, but the core story and characters are timelessly engaging. Though Shrek the Third and Forever After failed to live up to the quality of the first two films, they at least maintained the aesthetic and a bit of the heart, the latter more evidently in Forever After since the Third in contrast felt more like spinning the franchise's wheels than actually doing anything new and exciting. The few seconds shown of this new movie demonstrate none of the original appeal or charm, it explicitly dates this film to the 2020s with the doom scrolling, deep-fried memes, and casting of Zendaya, Fiona feels out of character for reacting the way she does, Felicia has brown eyes when she was established to be the only ogre triplet to have blue eyes, and these characters just look like ugly caricatures or AI distortions at a glance, I initially thought it was fake until I saw the full video the stills were taken from. The original Shrek designs weren't amazingly unique or anything, but they became iconic and their simple elegance kept them relevant. Doing a radical redesign like this undoes all the efforts to maintain brand identity and will only serve to alienate most of the audience. Nobody would be demanding a do-over if they approached this movie like they did with The Last Wish, said film was also a radical departure from the established animation style as shown in the original Puss in Boots, but it made up for it by maintaining the iconic designs of Puss and Kitty and making the animation so spectacular to behold that people appreciated the change. This new animation style isn't different in a awe-inspiring way, it's just different for the sake of being different, changes the designs enough to be off-putting, and looks no better than the previous films for it, if not worse. You can act like it's absurd for people to care about Shrek this much, but it's up on its fifth entry for a reason.
Nobody with a baseline of sense is actually freaking out about it. But channels like this are run by morons who've staked their income on manufactured bullshit so LS Mark has to play the dumbest fucking version of a clown to pay his rent.
Shrek's og design remained consistent throughout the four shrek movies, even with advancements in animation, was part of what kept the series feeling cohesive. Each movie kept his distinctive look, there was no need for a redesign.
imo faces all look too rounded and clean to fit into the intentional ugliness of the Shrek universe, and the animation itself feels too bouncy and overdone. Shrek animation has always been on the exaggerated side but in a way that compliments its art style. this teaser looks like they’re trying to make it more… approachable? but everything just ends up looking sterile. just my 2 cents
I dont want Shrek's old design back because it's ugly, i dont think it's ugly, no, but, i want Shrek's old design back because the new design reminds me of Illumination, and i dont want DreamWorks to look like another Illumination!
@@goombalo10 yeah but also changes like that arent easy come, also this isnt just one cgi character its an entire new animation style (i agree that its ugly but to think theyd just make changes like that is frankly ridiculous)
TLDR: it’s the animation/character designs. More expressive ≠ better because there’s a point where animation becomes too expressive, especially in a world like Shrek. And I’m all for them trying new things, but how the world and characters look being entirely changed is not something that should be changed because that’s a massive part of what makes something what it is
The fact that Shreks design and the overall teaser of him looking at memes worries me a lot! Like why bring the techonology like memes into the movie, when the story is moreless based on the midieval times? Like there isnt a SINGLE car or city in the past 4 movies, so it bothers me knowing theres such things as a tik tok in the shrek universe now. I hate this Disney almost realistic style for shrek and I am very worried for this new plot and story
I never understood the shrek the third hate. I thought it was a funny movie and him struggling with the idea of kids seemed like a natural progression of his and Fiona's story.
The redesign isn't the worst thing ever, but it still just looks off. I don't get why they didn't keep the old one and made a few twitches, the current one looks like it was designed by a different studio.
Shrek 5 should have had them jump in a 2d world. That would be the biggest F U to disney. You know do what they originally wanted to do an amazingly visual 2d movie
A lot of people defending the new designs are saying stuff like, “the designs aren’t bad, you just don’t like them because they’re different.” But that’s unironically why they’re bad, it is because they’re different. Changing the art style is bad because the art style is part of the identity of the movies. Even if the new art style looks nice, it still doesn’t justify changing it. There would need to be a REALLY good reason to change it. Puss in Boots 2 had good reasons to change its art style, for example. If Shrek 5 was made to look like, say, the SpongeBob movie, that might have its own charm to it since that movie looks really nice, but it would be a bad change because it wouldn’t make any sense. This is just doing that to a more subtle extent. Change can actually sometimes be a bad thing just because it’s different from the old.
overly praising this new animation makes me mad, its worse bc this movie looks shitty, its really terrible and choppy. if people defend it bc he "looks old" is a very shitty way of defending the reboot. 4 movies with similar animation now it looks like its a cocomelon ripoff, people who grew up with the franchise doesnt deserve that.
I sure am glad that people didn’t take anything from the Sonic Movie criticisms beyond “if you harass people about a cartoon character design they’ll fix it just for you, the loyal consumer”
I (and many others) love Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. And while I'm glad that was made, I think they should've stopped there. And considering how many people consider Shrek Forever After a really solid ending. There is no reason for this movie to exist. But if it has to, it should take more from The Last Wish. I wanted this movie to be a fun reunion between the cast of Shrek and Puss in Boots.
It should not have been that hard to make people excited for Shrek. I get the designs would need updates regardless, but there's something about what they went with that looks off
Seriously, what is this crap. All the other shreks were cool cause they had that comforting uncanny valley effect to them but this is too smooth and ugly
6:20 No, they wouldn't have. That time where people made memes with companies was shortlived and immediately ruined by said greedy companies. "Silence, brand" wasn't a meme, it was an order.
Ugly sonic was also completely different to an already good design. I think it's the same thing with Shrek. The designs arent terrible, but I think the just change them to get general audiences in the door after 4 movies of the same.
Shrek 5 was announced the same day it was announced that Mommy Pig from Peppa Pig was pregnant, and the same day that a Pokemon reveal trailer actually went over well with the internet. If thats not ominous I dont know what is.
The Designs really don't look bad, they're DIFFERENT from the older designs but it's not outright hideous or unforgivable. That being said, the original designs are still much better.
You're missing the point of the complaints entirely if you think it's about the integrity of Shrek. It's about how there's the decline of animation, the consolidation of roles by the same handful of actors; seriously, people are sick of Zendaya; and the digging up of beloved franchises to do cheap cash grabs. It's not about Shrek itself, it's about the continued march of this bullshit.

The daughter looks way too modern and not fairy tale-like. I feel like a 40 year old man is yelling at me saying "LOOK, SHE'S JUST LIKE YOU"

These days it feels like the animation side of the internet is either overly praising something or overly complaining about something, theres rarely an inbetween
This is why I'm moving to the animatic side of the internet. My opinion is less complete.
these days? that's how the internet has always been
I cant even handle listening to reviews most of the time anymore because of this, people aren't giving stuff a chance so much that some of these reviewers are literally not actually even watching the movies and still writing out these negative scripts that just parrot each other.
True
I don’t even think the designs look that bad, but the old designs are far superior.
I thought of that same thing
I'm sure many people have pointed it out, but they look more like the Croods now
@Pastryman-g9u I mean Dreamworks needed to do new designs for characters who didn’t have a film in years, and if they do the same if Madagascar plans to have another film, then we know they’re gonna have redesigns
Mayby it's just me, but I don't see any big differences. His head is slightly less round and his eyes are mayby a bit to close, and that's it. It's not an upgrade, nor a downgrade, it's just Shrek with more bulky jaw.
Exactly!! I'm sure this animation took a lot of time and effort but that doesn't mean it looks better
Trying to make Shrek’s character designs more “appealing” completely goes against the entire… well, appeal of Shrek lol
Actually they made him uglier which is kinda the point
I think it's fine, honestly. I prefer the original, but it honestly just looks fine. They're older now, and I think the designs perfectly show that. I love Donkeys new design, Fiona looks great, and Shrek is fine. People are overly dramatic, it's not that big of a deal :/
@@easiestcc6451they softened Fiona’s features though, taking away from the point of her character.
Shrek 1 was about self-love, and self-acceptance. And Fostering a found family of people who accept you as you are and not how society see you.
What bothers me is didn't Shrek also have two sons, did they die in Vietnam or something.
I felt the same thing, I’m hoping it’s just a thing of not having them cast yet
They didn’t survive the winter
Fiona ate them
"They're not played by Zendaya so who cares"
They are males so sadly they must be deleted
Not only is the redesign controversial, but the fact that it starts with Shrek reacting to memes of himself despite Shrek memes being forgotten in 2025 is what truly concerns me.
Shrek memes being forgotten in 2025 is debatable because I still see a few from time to time
The design honestly means nothing compared to the horrible cringe iPad baby targeted writing. It goes against everything shrek was
The age of memes is irrelevant for me, it's the fact that there are memes, that's cringe enough, especially since they are of the brain rot type and nothing something clever at least.
It reminds me of the Megamind 2 trailer.
The donkey staring meme was pretty big a few months ago
And yeah, people asked for another movie with your point
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere after the success of the the first or second movie they had planned on making 5.
That's really ironic coming from a fan's perspective
Shrek 4 was never a good ending tbh
It didbt really advance the world that much at all other than shrek himself
Worrisome? It’s just a movie. Worry about things that actually matter, like Elon musk sacking almost all national park employees. There are now only 3 employees working at Yellowstone
I'm not pretending to care about the Integrity of Shrek I just hate redesigns of designs that were fine in the first place.
I take what I said back they removed all the sauce….

Agreed! His design looks unfinished. Like, the hair hasn't finished rendering yet.

Anyone else thinks that Shrek's daughter looks like a trolls or croods character? Idk what is it about her design (probably the hair and hairstyle), but she looks like a troll-caveman hybrid to me
I think Shrek 5 should own that and acknowledge that as a joke.
Its because her facial features take up her whole face. Basically They tried too hard to make her look different than the other ogres

Tired of the sequel that tries to get the daughter over.
That "how do you do fellow kids" territory has been met by just starring zendaya as a teenage daughter.

1 Just *OOZED* with charm
What’s frustrating is that Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona’s cameo in the Dreamworks logo opening will look like how they were in the first Shrek film compared to the design we got in the teaser.

Fion's redesign is the worst for me. She hardly looks like her original character at all anymore.

Given the Illumination-like style here, I would not be surprised.
Well that’s surprising. Both studios are in the wrong here.
Melandri worked on Puss in Boots 2 and it turned out to be one of the best animated movies out all time
@ Actually he was an executive producer on Puss in Boots 2 which don’t have as much say as a main producer so he was probably more hands off on that than on Shrek 5 not to mention he was working on the Mario movie which Puss in Boots 2 took it’s original release date.

Oh my fucking God I hate that joke so much.

@G0o0se Why are Fiona's eyes blue then? She's an adult
@ not all ogres are born with blue eyes? idk man
It’s the proportions, there are so many edits that slightly tweak the proportions and they look so much better, proportions being slightly off can lead to an animated character looking like a completely different person
The worse part about the trailer was finding out they hired Zendaya. Everything else just looks like updated cgi.

They are more like Banjo-Kazooe Nuts and Bolts, which is still ugly.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who feels the same way about the new design. I’m not even “pretending” to hate it; I actually feel that way.
To be honest I don’t think it looks bad at all. And the people comparing it to ugly sonic… I don’t see it at all.
I barely see any difference in the redesign, at least for shrek and fiona
The graphics look great, just that Fiona and shrek look different, like shrek nose looks smaller. Some say they just aged, but Fiona looks younger lol
to me it doesnt look horrible but it also looks worse
Nobody with a baseline of sense is actually freaking out about it. But channels like this are run by morons who've staked their income on manufactured bullshit so LS Mark has to play the dumbest fucking version of a clown to pay his rent.
Go get your eyes checked
The ONLY thing that can save this movie is Shrek saying Bababooey. DreamWorks, you know what you must do.
1:10 Ok that throw me off out of the blue that you put BHD’s reaction of Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life LMFAOOOOOOOO
Felt like Ugly Sonic gave people the mentality that if their voices are heard, than studios must be forced to bow to their whim.
people forget that changing sonic before release literally made an entire studio get shut down
@@oootoocool1 So maybe they should try not making dogshit?
@@goombalo10 yeah but also changes like that arent easy come, also this isnt just one cgi character its an entire new animation style (i agree that its ugly but to think theyd just make changes like that is frankly ridiculous)
Well... the audience *is* their money. No audience, no money. Which is true enough in any industry.
@@OrionDawn15Wait... Disney hate money and blaming audience if their agenda being criticized 😂
as a grown man, i am very upset about the design of this children's movie, even if they're barely changed at all
TLDR: it’s the animation/character designs.
I hate this Disney almost realistic style for shrek and I am very worried for this new plot and story
i don't mind it, as long as the movie itself isn't bad. but right now, it doesn't look too hot.
Keep your expectations low, the director is the creator of the Boss Baby franchise
@@juliangandara9552Boss Baby? I thought my expectations were low before, now they’re in the seventh circle of Hell
@@juliangandara9552 Please tell me your joking, boss baby sucks so bad
@@juliangandara9552shrek 5 literally has another director who did Shrek 2 tho
@@juliangandara9552 Dang that's crazy that could be why the characters look so different now.
I never understood the shrek the third hate. I thought it was a funny movie and him struggling with the idea of kids seemed like a natural progression of his and Fiona's story.
Nostalgia baked criticisms by adults who never really grew up
The redesign isn't the worst thing ever, but it still just looks off. I don't get why they didn't keep the old one and made a few twitches, the current one looks like it was designed by a different studio.
I think Shrek being more cartoony can still be seen as the anti-thesis to Disney, with their approach to realism with the live-action remakes.
We don't want you in our swamp, Shrek. We don't love you like we did in 2001.
Shrek 5 should have had them jump in a 2d world. That would be the biggest F U to disney. You know do what they originally wanted to do an amazingly visual 2d movie
That would be so much nicer!
God I'd adore this, especially if it was hand animated
Shrek 5: Announced.
Everyone on the Internet: Not in my swamp.
overly praising this new animation makes me mad, its worse bc this movie looks shitty, its really terrible and choppy. if people defend it bc he "looks old" is a very shitty way of defending the reboot. 4 movies with similar animation now it looks like its a cocomelon ripoff, people who grew up with the franchise doesnt deserve that.
FRRRR
I sure am glad that people didn’t take anything from the Sonic Movie criticisms beyond “if you harass people about a cartoon character design they’ll fix it just for you, the loyal consumer”
I (and many others) love Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. And while I'm glad that was made, I think they should've stopped there. And considering how many people consider Shrek Forever After a really solid ending. There is no reason for this movie to exist. But if it has to, it should take more from The Last Wish. I wanted this movie to be a fun reunion between the cast of Shrek and Puss in Boots.
Great Shrek 5 will get delayed a whole year for a character design :(
It should not have been that hard to make people excited for Shrek. I get the designs would need updates regardless, but there's something about what they went with that looks off
Seriously, what is this crap. All the other shreks were cool cause they had that comforting uncanny valley effect to them but this is too smooth and ugly
@@Shrek-pu8uu EXACCTLTYYYYY
6:20 No, they wouldn't have. That time where people made memes with companies was shortlived and immediately ruined by said greedy companies. "Silence, brand" wasn't a meme, it was an order.
People loved Shrek 1 for its pop culture humor
People are hating Shrek 5 for… it’s pop culture humor?
It's been 21 years since Shrek 2. It's been 15 since Shrek 4.
C'mon people. This was inevitable.
The tone of that trailer did not feel like shrek at all the design is the least of my worries.
And minecraft movie trailer 3
0:01 Oh Hello There!
Dislikes up to 350k. People aren't happy.
The Designs really don't look bad, they're DIFFERENT from the older designs but it's not outright hideous or unforgivable. That being said, the original designs are still much better.
the best part about the teaser was that it gave us a new LSMark video.
Prime Shrek after seeing himself in Shrek 5: i used to be an ogre, now I'm just a jolly green joke

they could still have it be gritty/grungy while being stylised, thinking of tmnt mutant mayhem
