Ooku and World's End Harem both explore the inversion of traditional societal roles in dystopian settings, but they do so in drastically different ways. Ooku presents a world where women hold power, and men are subjugated, using this backdrop to delve into complex themes of power, identity, and societal structures. In contrast, World's End Harem focuses on a post-apocalyptic scenario where men are rare, and their reproductive value is central, often with a more provocative, fanservice-heavy and lustful approach. While both challenge conventional societal dynamics, Ooku offers a more thoughtful story.

You'll think you know where the story is going and then one more deranged character will make an entry. There is romance, but it's not the main focus. They rather focus on revenge, which leaves such an amazing taste. The FLs are so amazing; they are strong but emotionally dependent on ML, which makes the story more likable. Grappler Baki
|
Both of these series have quite a lot in common, both are very long running manga franchise spilt up into many different parts which both started in the 90s and are still ongoing. Both series involve a mix of tournament fighting and street fighting, and both franchises also revolve around the relationship between a freakishly powerful father and their son who strives to surpass them. However, while Baki and his father Yujiro are enemies, Tough's Kiichi and Seiko have a very close and loving relationship with Seiko lovingly mentoring his son Kiichi but needing to put them through harsh trials so Kiichi can have any hope of bearing the harsh burden of being the next successor to their family's martial art, the mystical art of life and death, the Nadashinkage Syle.
While both series revolve around brutal battles that mix over-the-top action with deceptions of realistic techniques, Tough leans much heavier into mysticism with far more frequent supernatural elements and certain characters who utilize a chi-like magic system, while later on in the franchise sci-fi elements start being introduced. Yet despite all this, both Baki and the Tough Franchise retain a focus on martial arts no matter how outlandish the story gets.

Besides both being Manhwa's, these two series have a lot in common. Both main characters are brought into a world of a story that they just finished reading. Furthermore, they both ally with the story's original MC, who is considered in both to be much more attractive than the MC we follow. The stories are quite similar in that, both MCs do their best to make use of their knowledge of the story's future in order to get the upper hand. Both MCs also come off as selfish, but are actually very moral and care deeply for others, but neither are afraid to do what needs to be done to the villains.
They do have their differences, though. While Omniscient Reader is more of a power fantasy, Estate Developer is more about the MC using his knowledge of engineering to improve the world he's in. Omniscient Reader is also less of an isekai since technically, the world he's living in is still our modern world, but with fantasy elements added, while Estate Developer is more of the classic "sent to another world" isekai. Omniscient Reader is also a bit more serious than Estate Developer which doesnt take itself very seriously most of the time, but can be surprisingly deep at times.

Both mangas are plot focusedbut have a focus on cool fights against cool well designed body horror monsters, and a similarly cast of characters with strong and wacky personalities or qualities. Chainsaw man is set in a modern urban setting and has more of a focus on relationships and emotions, where Tower Dungeon is a dark fantasy manga that is much more focused on purely action and plot, although every part of it from cast to humor is also solid.

Dungeon Meshi is overall more upbeat with bouts of epic and bleak moments, where Tower Dungeon is more overall overall bleak and epic with bouts of lightheartedness and comedy. Both stories have a cast of endearingly wacky characters and parties, with a lot of banter, and both have worldbuilding as a big draw. Fights always have a lot of thought put into them and there's a sort of realistic approach to how it would be like going on dungeon dives and the ressource management involved. With its monsters, Tower Dungeon leans into body horror more while Dungeon Meshi presents an array of classic fantasy monsters with more of a focus on speculative biology. Both put a fresh spin on tired tropes, such as "if you conquer and defeat this dungeon you shall become king, prophesied one", which make it so in the end nothing is as it first seems, and the question of who to trust is perhaps the most important.
Dungeon Meshi gets darker than you'd first assume while Tower Dungeon gets more lighthearted than you'd first assume. Both have plenty of awe-inspiring moments and visuals, and a story that'll get you glued to the page, don't be fooled by Dungeon Meshi's episodic facade.

Cute girls doing cute things! A standard moe trope—oh wait… 💀
These manga with mostly cute female leads are not what you'd expect them to be! Both of these delve into darker themes that make you question why these cute girls have to endure this kind of pain/trauma. "Gakkougurashi!" tapped into using a coping mechanism that is just a string away from backfiring—a happy delusion—in order to help them cling to that hope that everything will be okay despite their circumstances. On the other hand, "I Want to Love You Till Your Dying Day" delves into the sad reality of being unable to die together with all the pain you have to endure because of it. It also tapped into wanting to leave a mark on the ones you love before your inevitable end, as life is fragile, and it can be taken away at the drop of a hat.
All in all, if you want a moe manga that has an element of slice of life together with some form of darker themes, then these two are for you.

Pocket Monsters Special
|
For anyone, who only knows about Pokemon through the anime will find this recommendation quite bizarre, but I can assure you, Pokemon Adventures (PokeSpe for short) manga is nothing like the anime. JoJo (especially Stardust Crusaders) and PokeSpe are actually quite similar because both have strategical battles (brain over brawl), and almost no "Deus Ex Machina" or "power of friendship" BS, with proper explanation for backing up every decision the characters make. Stands and Pokemon are also very similar, as in the Pokemon trainers and Stand users have to be in perfect harmony with their Pokemon/Stands during a battle or some other predicament. PokeSpe, unlike the Pokemon anime is more closely related to the original games, so it generally sticks with proper type matchups and doesn't involve BSing the enemy with absurd and otherwise ineffective moves (eg- the infamous "aim for the horn" scene from the anime). The only thing PokeSpe lacks is graphic depiction of gore since it's published in CoroCoro comic, but the violence and serious tone of the manga is otherwise very similar to JoJo.
There are also some other similarities of PokeSpe to the overall JoJo series, like both are divided into various arcs (parts), each featuring new protagonists, while the older ones still continue to appear as supporting characters. The timeskip of the 2 series between their respective arcs can vary however, with JoJo jumping upto 50 years or sometimes only 10 years, while PokeSpe doesn't jump more than 2-3 years.
Overall, I recommend JoJo to anyone who liked PokeSpe and vice versa.

A lovable, naive loser, physically scarce and far from heroic, wishing to experience life's basic joys and commodities, escapes a gruesome death and suddenly gains an enormous power, tragically achieved thanks to his friend(s).
A mysterious, controlling woman buys the poor boy with food and pulls him into the 'anti-monster' system, thereby joining a group of hunters (dressed like they're from a crime noir film), where he soon clashes with his exact opposite.
Devils/succubus in urban fantasy setting, with plenty of dismemberments, blood manipulations and grotesque alterations.
Crazy action, dark humour, unique art and heaps of edginess.
Rings a bell? And that's just the first few chapters.

One Piece

If you loved One Piece, you should definitely give Naruto a shot. Both anime have that classic adventure vibe, with a main character who’s loud, goofy, and ridiculously determined to achieve his dream—Luffy wants to be Pirate King, Naruto wants to be Hokage. They both build strong friendships, face tough challenges, and never back down, no matter how impossible things seem. Plus, the fights are hype, the emotional moments hit hard, and the world-building pulls you in. Sure, One Piece is all about pirates and Naruto is about ninjas, but at the end of the day, they give you the same kind of excitement and emotional payoff. If you’re looking for another long, satisfying journey, Naruto won’t disappoint.
