Oh I didn't forget. My 9ers finally become a great team and every team in the NFC West decides to pick up their game too.

And anybody that can kick in Cleveland as accurate as Dawson did just made S.F better. All good teams need a good kicker. He can still boot 'em from 50 yards.

Ed Reed signs in Houston.

Brian Urlacher will be leaving the Chicago Bears.

Before anybody says "It's a business!! Get over it!", I get that. But seeing legends like these guys not retiring with their original teams is sickening.

Do you think Tony Gonzalez should have retired a Chief? Thats one legend who I felt made the right move even though he never got a ring but I see what you're saying Diva?

He was traded, no? I guess it's kind of the same thing. It's just sad to see veterans who have done so much for their teams/city just get cut and released like they don't mean anything.

Yeah he was traded but he begged for it, he wanted out of KC desperately.

Things like loyalty are a two way street though. The players are as much a part of it as the teams are. Nobody put a gun to Reed's or Urlacher's heads and forced them to take the money and run. In all likelihood the teams probably would have retained them if they took pay cuts that reflected their diminished skills and age and would have been willing to settle into diminished roles. It's kind of unfair for a players to expect their teams to sacrifice winning and the future stability of the teams for that players selfish needs or sentimentality if they aren't willing to make sacrifices for their teams in turn.

the bears offered urlacher 2 million and never came off that number, he wanted 5-6 million. so there is that answer.
veterans over 30 are getting less and less offered to them unless the are QB's expect to see this accelerate while the caps stays flat
leaders are now expendable

I think I heard somewhere that Urlacher also wanted multiple years. If true that probably killed the deal more than anything else. I do agree with the people that think the Bears probably lowballed him a bit. If I were the Bears I might have given him 3 or 4 million for one final year, and would be looking for a future replacement at this moment. The way he's been going he's on his last legs barring some unexpected resurgence. He hasn't deteriorated as much as Ray Lewis did last year, but he's getting close to that point. He's also been injured the last couple of years and the age doesn't make it seem like that going to be any more unlikely going foreword.

I don't have anything against Urlacher or him leaving though, and I'm a Bears fan. In the same situation if I still wanted to play I would do the same thing. I also wouldn't think either side owed something to the other in this situation unless it was mutual, and even then it should never come above what's best for the team.

Someone injured as often as Urlacher shouldn't be complaining. At this point in his career the money shouldn't matter if he really wanted to stay in Chicago & keep playing. Doubt anyone else will offer him any more than 3 million for a season.

well Ed Reed got 3 years and 15 million(5 of it guaranteed) and Shane Lechler got 3 years as well from the Texans so maybe Brian should see if they could use him as well

With all the talk of a gay NFL player coming out, I think it is fun to take a few moments and imagine all the interesting conversations that would crop up in the media and on the internet if a gay defensive end or linebacker gave Tim Tebow a career ending concussion.

Interesting but I don't know how would fit in a 3-4 defensive scheme. Maybe as a bookend inside backer to compliment Cushing? Wow.... that would be pretty awesome for the year or two he might have left in the tank. Too bad the Texans don't have the cap space to do it.

Tony Romo just hit the jackpot in Jerryland. 6 years/$108 million. $55 million guaranteed with a $25 million signing bonus. All for a guy who has never won anything. Man, that's just crazy.....

I think it's similar to the situation with Flacco, except as hard as it is to believe Romo isn't as badly overpaid. There just isn't anybody they can go out and get who is better. One of the things I think that is worse about Romo though is that I don't think he will hold up as well over the years. So the people that think he isn't good enough now will really be complaining at the end of his contract.

i can tell you that Aaron Rodgers and the Packers have been discussing a deal taht would pay him an average of 25 million per season.
the numbers will just keep climbing

Nmandi Asomoughouuuuougha is a 9er.

It's a good deal depending on which person they get. If they were lucky they will get the one that is closer to he person that was neck and neck with Revis for the title of best corner in the league from 2 years ago and not the person that has played in Philadelphia since then.

The deal is only 1 year 1.35 million. Low risk high reward I guess. He can't be any worse than Rogers. I think he'll flourish under Harbaugh and be motivated to play like his old self along with the other studs on D in San Fran.

Considering some of the incentives he was given like the 49ers making the playoffs and playing time that seem pretty likely it's probably more around a 3 million/ year contract, but still a good deal if he can get his old form.
